Collins Appointed to T&I Subcommittees on Highways and Transit, Aviation, and Water Resources and Environment

February 1, 2023

Washington - Representative Mike Collins (R-Ga.) was selected to serve as a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittees on Highways and Transit, Aviation, and Water Resources and Environment. Collins released this statement following the announcement:

“With my background in trucking, I have a passion for infrastructure. As a member of these key subcommittees, I look forward to serving Georgia and the American people by working to responsibly invest in our nation’s aging roads, runways, rails, and ports, and address supply chain challenges so we can get our economic engine humming again. Among my top goals is to build infrastructure that meets the needs of the 21st century economy, cutting regulations that are crushing small businesses, and holding the Biden administration accountable for how it spends taxpayer money.”

Background

  • The Highways and Transit Subcommittee develops national surface transportation policy, including policies related to the construction and improvement of highway and transit facilities, of safety and research programs, and regulation of commercial motor vehicle operations. This subcommittee provides oversight to many of the Department of Transportation programs.
  • The Aviation Subcommittee has jurisdiction over all aspects of civil aviation, including safety, infrastructure, labor, commerce, and international issues. Both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are overseen by this subcommittee.
  • The Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee has authority over matters relating to water resources development, conservation and management, water pollution control and water infrastructure, and hazardous waste cleanup. This includes jurisdiction over the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
