Washington, D.C.—Representative Mike Collins (R-Ga.) released the following statement as the House of Representatives prepares to consider Fiscal Year 2024 appropriations legislation throughout September:
"Our new Republican majority promised to tackle America's exploding debt, rein in unelected bureaucrats, and hold Joe Biden accountable for the damage he and his administration have done to our great country. That's why when Congress reconvenes, our first priorities must be to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Biden and pass the remaining appropriations bills.
"As the House considers legislation to fund federal agencies for next year, we must fulfill on our Commitment to America and do what we said we would do. That means, go through regular order and pass all remaining funding bills separately as we fight to cut wasteful spending and make Washington work for the American people again. The days of Congress setting taxpayer money on fire with large end-of-year omnibuses can, and must, end.
"The American people expect us to do this quickly and the right way, so any continuing resolution to give the House and Senate additional time to negotiate should be for terms of weeks, not months. Our nation cannot endure Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden's reckless spending spree that was set last year when Democrats had full control of the federal government.
“That means no more days off. The House and Senate should stay in session until the job of getting our fiscal house in order is done, and the legislation to fund federal agencies for Fiscal Year 2024 must demonstrate measurable progress toward that goal to gain my support."
