Collins Touts Georgia Farmers and Ranchers in Speech on FY24 Agricultural Appropriations Bill
Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representative Mike Collins (R-Ga.) delivered remarks on the House floor regarding H.R. 4368, the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, legislation to fund several federal agencies for Fiscal Year 2024. The U.S. House is considering the legislation this week.
Key Excerpts "Georgia is the top poultry producer in the nation. Our poultry industry generates an economic impact of $28 billion for our state." "This bill eliminates harmful regulations that unnecessarily dictate how to raise and market livestock which negatively impact Georgia producers and consumers alike." Background H.R. 4368 provides $25.3 billion in funding for the Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration, and related agencies. Under this bill, the Department of Agriculture receives $17.8 billion in funding, which is $8 billion below the FY23 level, and $11 billion below the Biden administration’s budget request. Savings include cutting wasteful spending by Democrats through rescissions of appropriations from prior congresses. In addition to reductions in spending, conservative priorities in this bill include prohibiting adversarial nations from purchasing American farmland, prohibiting funding for executive orders related to DEI and the USDA’s new DEI office, prohibiting funds going towards Critical Race Theory, and prohibiting any funds going to the Wuhan Institute of Virology. ### |
