Collins Urges House to Remain in Session

September 14, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Representative Mike Collins (R-Ga.) took to the House floor to urge his colleagues in the United States Congress to remain in session until all remaining appropriations legislation is passed.

Key Excerpts

“We promised the American people we would rein in federal agencies and get spending under control.”

“The way we do that is by uniting and passing conservative appropriations bills that will give us leverage against the Senate and the White House.”

“Colleagues, this has gotten out of hand—we need to start voting. Let’s put these bills on the House floor to debate and amend so Members can put themselves on record.”

“Mr. Speaker, we should stay here until we pass all twelve appropriations bills and send them to the Senate. Until we do that, the job’s not done.”

Background

Congress faces a deadline of September 30, the final day of the fiscal year, to pass the remaining eleven appropriations bills that provide agency and program funding. Failure to meet the cutoff date results in a government shutdown.
