Following Collins’ TRANQ Research Act, U.S. House Passes Another Bill to Combat Fentanyl and Mexican Drug Cartels

Washington – Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 47, the HALT Fentanyl Act, which will make the temporary class-wide scheduling order for fentanyl-related substances permanent while ensuring that researchers can continue studying this deadly drug. Representative Mike Collins (R-Ga.) voted in favor of the bill and issued this statement after passage:

“House Republicans are delivering on our promise to make our country safe from fentanyl, which has been modified to skirt U.S. law by Mexican drug cartels. Because of President Biden’s failed border policies, thousands of pounds of this deadly drug have poured into America over the past two years, taking lives, and breaking apart families. The HALT Fentanyl Act will make fentanyl in all its forms a controlled substance to protect Americans and help law enforcement keep it off our streets, while continuing to allow vital research into its effects on human health.”

Background

Ending the scourge of fentanyl in America is a top priority of Representative Collins. On May 11, legislation he authored called H.R. 1734, the TRANQ Research Act, passed the House of Representatives 425-0. Like the HALT Fentanyl Act, this bill seeks to protect Americans from fentanyl, specifically the proliferation of deadly additives like xylazine, more commonly known as the “Zombie Drug.”
