Representative Mike Collins Reintroduces the Safe Passage on Interstates Act

February 6, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Mike Collins (GA-10) reintroduced the Safe Passage on Interstates Act, which would make the intentional obstruction of interstate highways illegal.

“Activists and left-wing agitators are using our roadways as protest grounds, disrupting traffic, blocking emergency personnel, and endangering the lives of themselves and others. It is irresponsible and dangerous to cede control of interstate transportation to left-wing lunatics any longer,” said Rep. Mike Collins. “The Safe Passage on Interstates Act criminalizes these reckless acts and will make everyone who travels our highways safer.”

Background

  • While some states have laws criminalizing blocking interstate highways, no such law exists at the federal level.
  • This act is the reintroduction of the House companion of S. 192, which stalled in the U.S. Senate in the 118th Congress.
